Kitsch Magik Interview with Rurnt

For our first interview series I wanted to talk to someone outside of my normal Kitsch Magik and talk to someone I really admire!
Rurnt Is a Tennessee artist that shifts from PE to Harsh Noise and sound  so violent! To me I feel like its really hard to find a Noise act that actually sounds horrifying (in a good way) and pulverizing. usually acts that try to do this comes off as being desperate. This is not the case for Rurnt! This guy really makes it look easy and everyone should take a note from this artist. Enjoy!!!

Kitsch Magik : ok sweet ill start off with a generic one! introduce yourself! where are you from. and whats the best way to describe your main project!

Rurnt: OK, here we go...

Rurnt : My name is Jerry a.k.a. Rurnt. Under that moniker, I have done releases and live sets that range from harsh noise, PE and HNW. I wouldn't consider any of those a "pure" version of those genres, but they all are an different influence that sometimes bubbles to the top.

Kitsch Magik : I first found out about Rurnt in a noise comp that made its way to a noise group called BIG TENNESSEE NOISE COMPILATION on Failed Recordings which is a killer! and Then I found out that you were the one who put that together! how was that experience? Does this comp is a great representation on where you are from!

Rurnt: Thanks for the kind words. I'm glad that comp made it's way beyond just TN. Putting the comp together was a really good experience as it allowed me to contact other acts throughout the state. It was surprising to find that I couldn't find evidence of noise in West TN. I'm sure it's there somewhere though. The comp is pretty good representation of TN at that time. Just like anything else, acts come and go. Some I know nothing of besides what's on the comp and some I've known for years. Where I'm from (Chattanooga) is heavily repped on the comp, but due to lack of venues, those acts can't really perform on the reg.

Kitsch Magik : Speaking about live shows. What does your live set consist of? how does the crowed react? is there gear that you sometimes cant bring? and was there a venue that you really liked playing at?

Rurnt: Almost every set I've played has been different. I try not to repeat myself if at all possible. I don't really have any gear I can't use live, but if there is something that's difficult, I just load it into my sampler. Venue wise, I'm always into playing house shows. Club wise, I would say the Pilot Light in Knoxville TN. It's a good size and has a good PA.
here's a video of the last set I played.

Kitsch Magik: I know some people who don't like to use prerecorded noise in there set (I don't care at all and do the same thing.) but do you think that will eventually be excepted. probably a stupid question. but what do you think will happen in the next 10 years in noise and its future?

Rurnt:  Seems like most people I know who do noise are using samplers, tape loops, etc. Never knew people had a problem with that. I find it funny that anyone would. All the equipment anyone uses is nothing more than a tool. Saying your against pre-recorded sounds in a noise set is like saying there's no need to use a screwdriver while building a house. Any and everything should be used. I hope people accept that, because if they do that means they're coming out of their self induced shell.

Rurnt: As far as the future of noise goes, I have no idea. I don't really seeing it being used in soda commercials or anything. I think it will just keep doing it's thing. There's always gonna be people still pushing the edge of what can be done and people still trying to be Whitehouse.

Kitsch Magik: also (highly generic question) what are some influences for this project.
Rurnt: My influences for Rurnt are from all over the place. Everything from the loop based experimentation of Slowdives "Pygmalion" to the fact that my boss can be a fucking dick. I don't know if they influence my sound (I'm sure they do to a certain degree), but some current acts that I'm really into are Terror Cell Unit, Developer, Jason Crumer, Sickness and a ton more.

Kitsch Magik: sweet that was amazing! any last words!

Rurnt :  Thanks for the questions and the interest. If anyone wants to hear what I've put out, check out the Failed Recordings bandcamp page. All downloads are free
